Meadowlark Expands Psychological Testing & Evaluation Services, Now Offering On-Site Parent-Child Interaction Therapy
(Iowa City, Iowa)—Meadowlark is proud to announce the expansion of its psychological testing and evaluation services at its Iowa City clinic. The facility now includes specially designed spaces for clinicians to conduct Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
PCIT is an evidence-based intervention that focuses on reducing disruptive behavior in children up to six years old, while also strengthening calm, effective communication skills for parents. This therapy has proven effective in addressing various conditions, including depression, separation anxiety disorder, and autism spectrum disorder.
"Our Iowa City office was built to accommodate the unique needs of PCIT," said Meadowlark psychologist Kari Kempf, PhD, BCBA. "The session spaces feature one-way mirrors and communication systems that allow for effective parent-child interaction therapy."
The approach involves a psychologist who observes interactions and uses headphones to offer guidance to parents or guardians as they interact with their child through play. Clinicians also help parents provide discipline calmly and effectively de-escalate big emotions.
Meadowlark has several highly qualified providers trained in IoWA-PCIT (Integration of Working Models of Attachment into Parent-Child Interaction Therapy). This is a modified approach developed by Beth Troutman, PhD, a clinical professor at the University of Iowa.
Clinicians who have been trained by Dr. Troutman and are now accepting new patients include:
· Kari Kempf, PhD, BCBA
· Sara Wise, PhD
· Dr. Lea Boldt, PhD
Other services offered at Meadowlark include psychological testing and evaluation, talk therapy, medication management, and more.
