Dabney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Grinnell College and a Master’s in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of Iowa. Dabney is a Board-Certified Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and specializes in working with adults with complex trauma histories, substance use concerns, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and neurodivergence. Dabney’s therapeutic approach is grounded in humility, non-judgement, compassion, curiosity and authenticity. In her practice, Dabney utilizes a warm, conversational style that is client-centered and collaborative. Dabney draws on therapeutic techniques from Person-Centered Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness, Polyvagal Theory and Harm Reduction.

Dabney is passionate about helping clients to address chronic shame, build effective communication skills, and practice healthy boundary-setting. While it is true that relationships can create deep pain and suffering in our lives, Dabney believes in the transformative healing that comes from our connections with others, where our vulnerability is met with empathy. Dabney strives to empower clients to take ownership of their lives, utilize their inherent strengths and develop achievable goals that facilitate sustainable changes that bring clarity, meaning and purpose to client’s lives.
