Lea is a licensed clinical psychologist. She received bachelor’s degrees from Creighton University and The University of Iowa and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from The University of Iowa. Lea has interests in early childhood development and mental health, neurodevelopmental and related disorders, and challenging behaviors. She conducts psychological assessments with children and adults regarding neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) as well as general cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Lea provides early childhood evidence-based interventions, including Integration of Working Models of Attachment into Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (IoWA-PCIT) and Improving Parents as Communication Teachers (Project-ImPACT), consultation and therapy for challenging behaviors in young children, the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) program for parents with children with anxiety and anxiety-related disorders, Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)/habit reversal therapy, and limited therapy for children and adults with ASD, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and certain adjustment-related difficulties. Lea is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics and continues to teach and mentor graduate students and psychiatry residents and fellows. She is an active board member of the Autism Society of Iowa and has helped organize conferences on several topics related to ASD.
