Melissa is a psychiatric physician assistant who has been practicing at Meadowlark since 2017. Melissa completed her undergraduate studies at Des Moines Area Community College and Central College. She attended PA school at Des Moines University and received her master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She also completed a psychiatry fellowship for PAs at the University of Iowa. Melissa has completed her doctoral studies in Translational Health Science at George Washington University and is now working to complete her dissertation.

Melissa began her PA career in family medicine, urgent care, and emergency medicine. When she began practicing psychiatry in 2008, she knew she had found her home. She enjoys working with a variety of patients of any age or background, though she particularly enjoys working with women and adolescents. Ms. Gentry is passionate about supporting people through the rough times in their lives by helping them find the best possible version of themselves. She enjoys integrating yoga, nutrition, and general wellness into our efforts to improve one’s mental health.

Melissa has earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in Psychiatry from The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She has received a Certificate of Recognition for Clinical Preceptor Excellence, awarded jointly by the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Physician Assistant Education Association. Melissa was selected as a Mental Health Fellow as a part of the PA Foundation Mental Health Outreach Fellowship in 2018.
